A carburetor is a component of older gasoline engines that ensures the mixing of air and fuel (usually gasoline) in exactly the right proportions. This mixture is necessary for combustion in the engine and thus for the delivery of power. Without this mixture, the engine would not be able to run. A combustion engine works on an explosion of air and fuel. This explosion pushes a piston down, which generates power. However, this explosion only works properly if the ratio is exactly right. Too much fuel and the engine consumes unnecessarily large amounts of fuel. Too much air and the engine does not get enough power or starts to “sputter.” Since the 1990s, carburetors have been almost completely replaced by electronic fuel injection. These systems are much more accurate, efficient, and better suited to modern engines and environmental regulations. |
This category includes all complete carburettors for various vehicles. Note that adjustment is always necessary when fitting a new carburettor. Other parts for mounting and (fine) adjustment can be found in the category Carburettor accessories. In this group you will often find no-load jets, calibration sets and flanges for mounting.
