Every remanufacturer and car mechanic knows it: the German brand Kolbenschmidt has a good reputation when it comes to the quality of aftermarket parts for engines. It has even become proverbial: true 'Kolbenschmidt quality'. Kolbenschmidt does not stand alone, the brand is part of MS Motorservice International, good for quality products in every conceivable product group in the automotive industry.
Motorservice, in turn, is part of the hugely extensive Rheinmetall Group. More well-known names at Motorservice: Pierburg, TRW and BF Original. Naturally, all these brands have their own Research & Development departments, but they also make grateful use of all the knowledge on engine technology and innovations within the 'family'. In this blog, more about their own expertise per brand name.
BF is particularly at home in the heavier diesel engine category, for example for transport and industry, road building, agriculture and construction. Think heavy duty engines from Mercedes, MAN, Volvo, Scania, Caterpillar and Perkins. This sister company of Kolbenschmidt has devoted itself entirely to OE-quality production of cylinder heads, camshafts, crankshafts and oil pumps, among other things. In that field, it has been a loyal, regular partner of Wilmink Engine Parts for many years. No wonder, because at BF you can count on top quality and attention to durability. The BF brand has been around since 1976 and became part of the Motorservice portfolio in 2011.
Pierburg has been around for almost as long as there have been cars and internal combustion engines. Pierburg's roots go all the way back to Berlin, 1909, starting as a steel company at the time. Soon Pierburg became the trusted supplier of engine parts for the entire German automotive industry. Pierburg became known for manufacturing carburettors. With the advent of engine electronics, Pierburg stopped producing carburettors. Since then, Pierburg has been the specialist in 'engine management parts'. Pierburg's in-house knowledge plays a major role in the development of parts used as a result of increasingly stringent emission requirements for internal combustion engines. Examples include EGR valves, throttle bodies, exhaust gas temperature sensors, air masseters, etc. This for both the original channel and the aftermarket.
The vast experience they have at Kolbenschmidt is at least as impressive. Founder Karl Schmidt's company (1910) was originally one of the pioneers in producing high-quality aluminium. When in 1921 aluminium was first permitted as a light and strong material to make pistons, Kolbenschmidt immediately made a conscious commitment to it. Today, Kolbenschmidt has branches in Europe, North America, South America and Asia. The Kolbenschmidt brand name is a household name when it comes to a wide range of engine parts. Kolbenschmidt is best known for its extensive range of Kolbenschmidt pistons and cylinder liners, from very small to very large.
Kolbenschmidt also supplies valves, cylinder heads and (plain) bearings. You will find them all in the range of Wilmink Engine Parts. The valves Kolbenschmidt supplies have the brand name TRW, an A-brand that is a household name among revision companies and mechanics all over the world. TRW undoubtedly counts as OE quality there. Kolbenschmidt is certainly not stuck in the rich past. Kolbenschmidt engineers are constantly developing and expanding their product range.
