Elring gaskets and gasket sets for PSA engines

This blog is the first part of a mini-series, so keep following us! This part focuses on two types of engines: Peugeot and Citroën. More precisely, the PSA engines EB0 and EB2. Plus tips for successful installation of new gaskets from the well-known A-brand Elring.
You'll see: Elring supplies a range of products, full of German precision, from complete gasket sets to cylinder head bolt sets and o-rings or oil seals. Elring is the inventor of - among other things - the patented Metaloseal, a rock-solid polymer made of metal and partially vulcanized elastomer. But Elring also uses softer materials for gaskets, just what suits a particular engine type. As far as we know, a rebuilt engine can't go wrong after such a successful French-German combination.
About the PSA EB engines, general
These three-cylinder engines have been made since 2012 under the name PureTech.
At the time, they were applied in the early Peugeot 208 models, later also in variants of the Opel Corsa, the Opel Crossland, the Jeep Avenger, and most recently, in 2023, in the latest model, the Fiat 600.
In 2013, the EB engine was an engineering feat by PSA's product developers, conceived to replace the 1.0 and 1.4 TU engine models. Those had existed since 1986 and were introduced in the highly successful small car Citroën AX. Moments later (2015), the updated EB engine received the honorary title of "Engine of the Year" from the international automotive industry. Still, 1.0 and 1.2 PureTech engines are known as powerful and, at the same time, economic (i.e., relatively low emissions); they also won the 'Engine of the Year' award several times since 2015. Not for nothing are millions of cars driving around with engines of this type.
The first versions produced were non-turbocharged engines, later with turbochargers and intercoolers. The strength of the design is that PSA managed to reduce the friction of moving parts significantly. Thanks to piston pins, seal rings, and tappets with DLC friction liners. A special coating with a low coefficient of friction. Also new was the redesigned cooling system with two separate circuits. PSA's EB engine has two overhead camshafts and variable valve timing, which is standard. Another unique feature that contributed to PSA's EB engine's success is the cylinder head with integrated exhaust manifold.
